Job Description


Alion is looking for a Technical Editor to support our client in Arlington. VA.  The selected candidate will provide focused administrative support for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)) to include editing and formatting correspondence, reports, briefings and other content drafted by technical and management personnel in accordance with DoD 5110.4-M and the Chicago Manual of Style 16th Edition. 


  • Operate independently when required with minimal guidance and supervision; possess problem solving skills and able to conduct independent research; properly handle sensitive information. 
  • Prepare formal, official program documents and correspondence based on OUSD(R&E) input and direction and maintains accountability of associated program files and records. 
  • Assist in the development and coordination of appropriate responses, reports pertaining to OUSD(R&E) projects; provide these reports and summaries as prescribed in official DoD or other federal directives. 
  • Participate in ad-hoc meetings and be able to complete high priority assignments with quick turnaround response time. 
  • Interface with Governmental and non-Governmental agencies. Other functions include analyzing requirements for inter-agency working groups and coordinating inputs from numerous sources, other Government agencies, academia, and non-Governmental organizations.
  • Ability to research multiple topics, such as major technical issues and research trends, and use that research to write speeches and create presentations that focus on specific topics to engage audiences; draft speeches and presentations specifically for customer; and produce complex, high-profile speeches, presentations and communications for customer.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required. Specialized experience including military or industry experience may be substituted in lieu of specific educational requirements. 
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in providing technical editing and writing support to high-ranking Federal Government Senior Executive or DoD Flag / General Officers. 
  • Thorough working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style 16th Edition required. 
  • Secret Security Clearance required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of government document process procedures (DoD 5110.4-M) is highly desirable.
