Job Description


Provides support to Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Pacific (SSC PAC) Enterprise Training Activity (SETA) customer. Under general supervision, writes and edits moderately complex technical C4I-related documents, including deliverables, manuals, reports, specifications and procedures in conformance with the customer’s writing and documentation review process.

Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

** Applicant must hold an active Secret clearance **

Responsible for writing technical copy for various operation and maintenance manuals and technical publications.

Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits moderately complex technical documents for publication.  Edits documentation for style, clarity, consistency, and adherence to customer guidelines.         

Acquires subject matter knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.

Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.

Produces products that conform to customer documentation and quality assurance standards.

Ensures technical documentation is accurate and complete in format and style.

Interfaces with customer, engineers or technical staff to determine technical writing and editing needs. 

Conducts interviews with technical staff to gather data for documentation.

Interacts closely with authors, other Technical Editor-Writers, word processing, graphics, and reproduction staff in the preparation and production of documents.

Researches technical concepts.  Creates new or modifies existing technical documents that are moderately complex in nature.

Evaluates and provides feedback on draft documents and attends documentation reviews.

Checks classified documentation for proper security markings.

Coordinates production of the final documentation (print to CD-ROM) with the authors and publication staff.

Prepares the transmittal memorandums and coordinates the transmission of documentation to sponsors.

May require additional Information Assurance-related certifications such as CompTIA Security +, CISSP etc.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, computer science, or related discipline plus minimum of 4 years of experience, including 2 years of specialized experience in the information systems field. Ability to interface with development team and end-users to understand functional requirements to develop processes and procedures.

Education or work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.

A SECRET clearance is required for this position.
