Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary:

The Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) and technical documentation specialist/draftsman is responsible for the development of detailed, technical drawings and documentation in support of the NCTE program’s Navy Enterprise Tactical Training Network (NETTN).  Working with NCTE installation’s team lead documentation specialist, draftsmen, network and installation engineers, the draftsman/technical documentation specialist will be required to gather requirements from technical personnel, and based upon requirements, create  and maintain technical NCTE installation design and as built plans, to include detailed facility, cabling, power, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and network drawings.  In addition, the draftsman/technical documentation specialist will be required to develop technical documentation required as part of the NCTE installation process, including site survey reports, standard operating procedures.  The draftsman/technical documentation specialist will be required to periodically travel to NCTE locations, to survey proposed and existing NCTE installation sites, and develop drawings and reports according to the results.  Additionally, the draftsman/documentation specialist will be required to assist the NCTE installation’s team lead documentation specialist in maintaining NCTE drawing and documentation libraries using various information sharing systems, and to periodically adjust information contained therein to enhance information sharing across the NCTE program’s NETTN.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      As required, create, develop and modify NCTE technical documents and drawings using AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio Software, ensuring conformity to Navy and industry best practices for technical IT drawing and design documentation.

2.      Develop technical documentation required as part of the NCTE Installation process.

3.      Maintain NCTE documentation and drawing libraries across relevant information storage and sharing platforms utilized by the NCTE.

 
Education and Experience:

1.      Bachelor’s degree or, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (E.g. Associate’s + 2 years of experience; or  HS Diploma + 4 years of experience).

2.      2 years’ experience in computer aided design and drafting, with an emphasis on IT system drawing design.

(In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

1.      Proficient with Microsoft Office products, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.

2.      Basic  knowledge of U.S. Government tempest regulations

3.      Advanced level knowledge of Autocad (2D, 3D, and VBA).

4.      Advanced level knowledge of Adobe Acrobat professional.

5.      Understanding of IT System design and drawing concepts.

6.      An understanding of electrical and HVAC concepts, specifically related to systems required to support IT installations. This includes the concepts of electrical grounding, heat/power conversion, and IT System cooling principles and best practices.

7.      Ability to lift 30 pounds, and work on ladders.

8.      Ability to spend up to 25% of the year in a travel status, away from home base.

 
Security:  Must be a U.S. citizen, able to obtain a secret security clearance.  Preference given to candidates currently holding an active DoD Secret Clearance.
