Responsibilities/Qualification

Technical Editor-Writer, Senior / California, MD

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will provide continuity and quality control in documentation and assists the Project Manager with multiple large or highly complex projects through coordination with Subject Matter Experts and Project Leads. Coordinates work activities and writes and edits complex technical documents, including deliverables, manuals, reports, specifications and procedures in conformance with the Alion writing and documentation review process. Maintains master records and databases to track configuration and version control. The selected applicant will provide editorial support and quality assurance for proposal documents, presentations, correspondence, and other technical documentation, and will ensure compliance with applicable government defined style specifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

-- Consults with customer or technical staff to determine most appropriate schedule of deliverables and objectives for large technical writing projects.

-- Research, write, edit, and proofread technical documents to ensure information is clear, concise, and compliant with established customer formatting guidelines.

-- Create, develop, plan, write and edit highly complex technical documents for publication. Edit documentation for style, clarity, consistency, and adherence to company guidelines.    

-- Prepare draft material for internal review by subject matter experts and final review by the customer.

-- Evaluate and provide feedback on draft documents and attend documentation reviews.

-- Maintain Configuration Management of all documentation and maintain a tracking database to ensure version control.

-- Provides guidance to less experienced Technical Editor-Writers.

-- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus 5 to 7 years of directly related experience. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

-- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

-- The selected applicant must be proficient in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and document proofreading.

-- Possess a high level of proficiency in drafting, formatting, and editing documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.

-- Strong organizational skills, resourcefulness, and ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic and complex environment.

-- Must have the ability to research, review, and understand technical information, and be able to develop procedural information from technical documentation.

-- Adept at multi-tasking and meeting tight deadlines while producing high quality and accurate results in a fast-paced environment.

-- Military background, particularly in an aviation-related field is highly desired.

-- Must be able to meet the requirements required to obtain a Secret security clearance.

-- The selected candidate will have technical editing experience supporting DoD and/or military proposal development.

-- A security clearance of an appropriate level may be required after employment.
