We are looking for a Senior Technical Writer that demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills with experience (and/or skills) in production and dissemination of finished products. Experience with, or knowledge of, Intelligence Community (IC) organizations, operations, and policies as well as national security classification procedures is desirable. Specific knowledge/experience with the US Coast Guard (USCG) intelligence community is highly desired.

  • Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  • Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.
  • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.
  • Translates complex data into user-friendly text for print and electronic publications. Gathers information through research, statistical reports and interviews with technical staff.
  • Develops cataloging systems, and maintains records, files, electronic media and archiving of information for publications.
  • May be called upon to assist in technical or business presentations in such meetings as business or customer needs require. Selects or recommends use of layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits, illustrations, charts, or storyboards to amplify or clarify publications objectives.

Education/ Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English and other related fields. Bachelor’s degree highly desired. We require a minimum of five (4) years of experience working with MS Office and other technical and graphic tools, including Adobe publishing; proven ability to format large technical documents using a variety of authoring tools and software.

Desired minimum of three (3) years of experience working with a team of subject matter experts and collecting content knowledge on Government or military operations.

Special Knowledge:

Desired knowledge of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Intelligence Enterprise and how it has developed since 2007; overall USCG mission and business model; processes and procedures within the USCG training system managed by FORCECOM; role of competencies in workforce management and the USCG’s Competency Management System; role the USCG plays within the US Intelligence Community; and unit types, systems, and authorities within USCG Intelligence.

US Citizenship and a current Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligibility required at hire.
