Position Summary
Alion Science and Technology Corporation is seeking an Unmanned Autonomous Systems (UAS) Test Support and Development Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) support to a major DoD Agency located in Albuquerque, NM at Kirtland AFB for operational test events. Travel (35%) to the White Sands Missile Range, NM and the Nevada National Security Site, NV, as well as to Louisville, KY, China Lake, CA. Dugway Proving Grounds, UT, and , Yuma, AZ may be required.
Responsibilities:
- Perform Unmanned Aircraft System/Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAS/UAV) operations, software development, payload integration and modification, systems evaluation (airworthiness), and UAS/UAV maintenance management.
- Perform physical modification of UAS/UAV platforms and integrate various after-market or unique payloads onto various commercially available or governmentally developed UAS/UAV platforms.
- Ensure there are sufficient electronics and wireless communications to control and monitor UAS/UAV operations and their payloads to acquire accurate test data.
- Manage and be responsible to maintain the customer’s UAS/UAV inventory to ensure the UAS/UAVs are flight-ready to support test events in order to gather required test data during tests, experiments, campaigns, and/or demonstrations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering and at least 3 years’ experience working directly with unmanned and autonomous (primarily air/ground) systems and payloads in a test and evaluation (T&E) environment.
- A High School degree and at least 7 years’ related experience is acceptable as an alternative.:
- US Citizenship is required: Must have active/current Top Secret (TS) with ability to obtain TS/SCI.
- .Required Training (must already be completed):
UAS/UAV remote drone pilot training
FAA Part 107 certification
Current FAA Class II flight physical
- Hands on experience piloting or testing unmanned autonomous systems.
- Ability to integrate instrumentation on to all types of unmanned systems.
- Skills in communications systems, radar systems, guidance/navigation/control, UAV control and mission management software, and cyber software.
- Knowledge of Federal UAS regulations.
- Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- MS Office proficiency and ability to work in an individual and team environment.
- Experience in utilizing UAS in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and/or High Explosives test events desired.
