Job Description

  • Lead, manage, and aggressively grow a P&L with approximately $100M in revenue distributed across several states.
  • Provide the strategic vision and associated roadmap to ensure continued growth and success of the business operations across the DoD, with a focus on Air Force Programs and customers. These customers include the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), the Air Force Research Lab and The Air Force Institute of Technology.
  • Serve as the AFLCMC Account Manager for Alion and be responsible for the formulation, implementation, and assessment of the company’s AFLCMC Strategy.
  • Develop and lead a first-rate team that is known for meeting and exceeding objectives and is proactive in creating opportunities within the Federal sector.
  • Drive organizational capability by developing group leadership team members, identify emerging leaders, driving investment in new senior talent, and ensuring high levels of employee engagement across the group.
  • Expand Alion’s footprint by winning new business within key market segments.
  • Keep alert to, and create opportunities for, potential acquisitions that complement Alion’s capabilities and make Alion more competitive within the Air Force markets.
  • Manage full P&L and contract/task management responsibilities for the business operations including technical, cost, schedule, compliance, staffing, customer satisfaction and financial reporting.
  • Achieve group-level operating margin contribution goals through strategic pricing, coupled with cost-effective program implementation, tight project management procedures, indirect cost control, and utilization rate management.
  • Work directly with key executives and functional experts to support efforts in growing their respective lines of business and developing adjacent markets.
  • Continue to develop the operation leadership team and develop a succession plan.
  • Use established relationships and develop new ones with key Government decision makers and acquisition officials to lead/deliver/win new and current business.
  • Implement consistent and standard processes for business planning and forecasting, staffing, delivery, reporting, technical achievements, and client relationship management.
  • Maintain contractual and programmatic oversight of all projects within the group. Provide status on a timely basis for all major projects as required.
  • Work closely with peers of other Alion Operating Groups, Operations and corporate staff to ensure effective pursuit strategies for programs that require multi-operating/business group collaboration.
  • Coordinate the business development activities of the operation to ensure continued profitable revenue growth. Deliver bids within allocated Bid and Proposal funding.
  • Enhance the group’s visibility with clients through leadership in innovation and advancement of state-of-the-art services and solutions. Guide the development of new offerings to capitalize on market/client opportunities.
  • Identify and execute approved research and development projects within budget, schedule, and performance parameters.
  • Some travel will be required.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess many of the following specific qualifications and experiences:

  • P&L experience – 10+ years within the Government contracting industry and demonstrated success managing and growing an annual portfolio valued at least $100M in a complex environment.
  • Business Acumen—Demonstrated experience developing business and market strategies, managing financials, and a diverse client base across the Federal marketplace to include DoD, Intel Community, or the Special Programs community.
  • Technical Background— 10+ years of direct domain experience in Air Force technical programs—it is highly preferred for the person to have strong knowledge/experience with Electronic Warfare, Digital Signal Processing (DSP), engineering, and/or software development techniques.
  • Program Management experience — 10+ years of experience leading large portfolios of complex projects/programs, with multi-year growth and operational excellence within the Government business space.
  • Capture Management—Experience capturing new business in a hands-on fashion. Proven record of pursuing and winning new business opportunities of significant size, complexity of scope and/or following a unique, complex business model within the targeted market. Track record of growing business through organic growth that delivered substantial revenue to the organization.
  • Customer Intimacy—Demonstrated ability to earn trust and respect of key customers including successfully managing difficult/delicate customer conversations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact at executive levels of Government and industry. Robust relationships with DoD and IC organizations.
  • Lead People and Collaborate Proactively—Successful track record of leading industry professionals as well as a keen understanding of industry trends to develop strategies required to expand and penetrate the Air Force Marketplace. Proven skills attracting and retaining individual contributors. Ability to quickly develop a compelling forward-looking vision for the Alion business.
  • Experience with Fixed Price, Time and Material, and Cost-Plus Prime contracts and subcontracts. Specific experience leading the development of solutions and tools is highly preferred.
  • Experience in the leadership and strategic alignment of units and individuals geographically dispersed at multiple locations.
  • Proven track record of effective client management, including leveraging of productive relationships at the senior client level.
  • Superior people management skills including direct experience with the processes and disciplines associated with running a Federally-focused, professional services firm.
  • Security Clearance—Current  SECRET clearance with the potential to get further clearances as necessary

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a preference in Engineering, Technology, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
